5 YouTube Channels that made me SURVIVE my Biology degree!

I truly think that there are many approaches to studying and as modern day students, YouTube is a huge part of our learning experience. So here I share my Top 5 youtube channels that I heavily relied on as a biology major student. These channels made my learning experience more enjoyable, pleasant and fun. I hope they do the same to you too!

Without further ado, here are the top 5 YouTube channels:

  1. Ninja nerds - this channel is for in depth explanations of processes including pathways. Very detailed and exciting to watch. I would say it is my favourite channel out of the list. This channel is great for reviewing materials before big exams such as midterms and finals. I love to watch Ninja nerds videos for more denser courses that cover a bit more of the cell biology, chemical pathways as well as cell signalling. The videos are relatively on the longer side, so I would advice you to break down the video to truly give each specific segment its time to process.
Ninja Nerd
Official Ninja Nerd Website: https://ninjanerd.org Our mission statement at Ninja Nerd is to deliver high quality science and medicine lectures on YouTube for FREE. We are here to provide a platform that can supplement to a more rounded learning experience, and have you walk away understanding the big picture.
  1. Bozeman science - this channel is for a more simplified and clear explanation of concepts, the videos are short, simple and fast. Mr. Anderson carried me through my AP biology course and in some courses in university. His ability to simultaneously explain terminology as he introduces them baffles me. I love the simplicity of his explaining, keeping it short and simple yet very informative. He also goes teacher mode at the end of each video to test your understanding on the topic. His videos however are a bit more general than the ninja nerd videos.
Bozeman Science
Paul Andersen is an educational consultant and YouTube creator living in Bozeman, MT. Paul is an experienced educator having taught science in Montana for 20 years. Paul was the 2011 Montana Teacher of the Year, and was also one of four finalists for the 2011 National Teacher of the Year. Paul was selected by YouTube as YouTube Edu Guru in 2012. Paul has provided training for thousands of students, teachers, administrators, and professors around the world. Paul’s specialties include the Next Generation Science Standards, educational technology, the flipped classroom, and effective classroom design. Paul enjoys providing meaningful professional development that can be applied immediately in the classroom. In addition to his work as a trainer Paul is an accomplished keynote speaker. When he is not working Paul enjoys spending time with family skiing and hiking in the mountains of Montana.
  1. Amoeba sisters - this channel is for a fun approach on complex content, simple easy terminology and nice breakdown of processes. I also think it is every professors' and teachers' favourite YouTube channel and I agree with them on that. It is a total win with the bubbly attitude and the amazing visuals. I also like their puns and memes!
Amoeba Sisters
We are two sisters on a mission to demystify science with humor and relevance by creating videos, GIFs, comics, and resources. Our content is focused on high school biology (Pinky is a former high school biology teacher), though we do receive comments that some of our content is useful for intro biology courses at the college level as well. We’re for anyone wanting to learn biology! We frequently remind viewers that we cannot include all of the fascinating exceptions and details in a video under 10 minutes. We like to create memorable visuals to the content, but they’re not scientific illustrations. Meaning, nitrogen and carbon don’t tap dance. Our illustrated cell and molecule cartoons are definitely not to scale. DNA is usually a right-handed double helix (well...there are exceptions) and it doesn’t have eyes...a face...or a top hat…
  1. Armando Hasudungan - this guy is amazing at what he does, he covers a spectrum of topics with a nice visual diagram. Personally, I watched his videos on neurology, cell biology and microbiology which were amazing. I usually check out his diagrams as they allow me to visualize certain concepts into something more organized and structured. Check out his playlists cause they are soo good!

I am a physician trainee living in Sydney Australia. I make these videos because I love to create medical diagrams. They help me learn and I hope then can help you too :) Support me: http://armandoh.org/shop Mailing: PO BOX 166 Randwick NSW 2031 Australia
  1. The Organic Chemistry Tutor - Do yourself a favour and watch his videos, ALL of them yes ALL of them. This guy is the reason I passed all the math and chemistry courses, because let's face it even as a biology major you still have to take lots of math and chemistry courses. It's a fee that needs to be paid :( but this guy makes things so simple and straightforward. Especially the exam review videos.
