Course Overview

In this course we covered a multitude of topics within the scope of biotechnology and genetic engineering. In this segement of the course we focused on the plant part of things, although it isn't my favourite part I will remain unbiased when writing all of the information. This course interestingly was divided into two parts: the theoretical part and the applications part. Although it is entirely a lecture course we do cover alot of practical topics as well as some fundamental experiments regarding biotechnology and genetic engineering.

Personally, I think the course tittle might seem somewhat complex and a tad bit intimidating but the content of the course proves otherwise. We cover lots of ideas where we started with an overview of genomes and bioinformatics. We also covered various genetic technologies such as gene cloning, transgenics, bioremediation, molecular pharming and more. We also discussed transgenic plants in details including technologies used to produce it. Lastly, we learned about the mehcanims of plant resistance to insects, herbicides and pathogens and how is biotechnology utilized in such areas.
